Matt Kessler did a great job bringing in a great humorous performance as Chris, I’m gonna be sad to lose him when he goes to LA but wish him the best of luck.
Today. Updates will be ahead, WITH A VENGEANCE
Is done. Saw over 60 actors, casting straight from 5:30 to 9:45 with only a 10 minute break to dump footage from the camera. Very happy with the talent that I saw, and with the final choices that were made. We’re now moving into the rehearsal phase, and things are starting to get really exciting.
Expect to get some images/video of the actors doing readings/rehearsals in the near future.
Are you in the Westchester area and in ownership of Swords or Comic Book/Video game Action Figures?
Let me know if you’d be willing to let me borrow them for the shooting of the film. In return you’ll get a thank you in the credits and a free DVD copy!
Showing some changes that are coming to the Family Business blog, and that can be expected for the film!
Michael Kelancey
A fresh faced right out of college buttoned down professional. Strongly independent due to his fathers “by the book” way of raising him. Recent college graduate and a great student. May come off somewhat cold or distant to certain people due to his focus on work and concrete things over immaterial things such as friendships. Doesn’t have the best relationship with his father due to both of their lack of social abilities. Doesn’t respect his father due to his career, and what he sees as poor financial decisions. Was able to basically guarantee a job after standing out in an interview when he was able to relate to the interviewer’s straight to the facts and by the books, Overall a likeable guy that just did what he was told to succeed, now out of school and off the steady path is a little bit nervous about finding his way on his own.

David Kelancey
David is Michael’s father. An only son, his father was not in the picture for his life. Due to that he has a pretty arrested development. As a child he was forced to be the man of the house and became extremely adept at fixing things around the house with his hands and pleasing his mother, this led to a career as a plumber after he graduated High School. As an adult and able to support his family, he decided to experience the childhood he was never allowed to have, splurging his throw away money on video games, samurai swords, and things more at home on the messy floor of a teenagers room then adorning a grown mans “man cave”. Crippled by a fear that he would not be able to raise his son right he did everything by the books and was not sure how to treat him. He acted under the assumption that forcing good grades, and career choices on his child would get him the best future, and therefore was the best parental route to take. Due to this their relationship is a bit strained, but he does genuinely love his son, he just doesn’t know how to show it.

Chris
Michael’s friend from High School, Whereas Michael stressed about every single assignment and deadline no matter how trivial, Chris could barely be bothered with big projects. Graduated high school due in no small part to Michael’s assistance, and has decided to thank him by hanging around his life, at times against Michael’s will. He hasn’t found a stable job since graduating, but doesn’t mind that life’s river has its rapids; he is content to ride them out. He hopes to thank Michael for all the help that he was given by trying to force some of his calm lifestyle to rub off on Michael.

Got stuck in a sort of pre production limbo for a moment there, but I am both excited and terrified to say that Family Business will begin casting next month with shooting hoping to begin February 24th, 2012!!!
Stay tuned here for notes on casting, exploring the set, and character bios. For now here’s Michaels hopeful boss, Phillip!
Phillip Grant
An awkward Business Executive Assistant, more socially comfortable discussing financial information and statistics, or Tolkien literature, as opposed to other types of more socially acceptable small talk. Had a great interview with Michael and thinks of him as a new best friend instead of a person who may possibly work under him. Saw a similar socially awkward loner streak in Michael that he shares, and hopes to kindle something akin to friendship with this new employee.
